Compendium of radio observations of normal galaxies
Haynes,R.F., Huchtmeier,W.K.H., Siegman,B.C., Wright,A.E.
Abstract
This compendium contains all radio measurements of optically bright
'normal' galaxies available to date. It considerably simlifies the
statistical analysis of the radio properties of normal galaxies and
indicates where improvements in the available radio data are needed.
Statistical analysis is to be published elsewhere.
2.Table of Results
Each line in the table lists information from one specific reference.

The Compendium of radio observations of normal galaxies was received in
1991 from W.Huchtmeier on diskette. The following corrections were applied:
- a column shift for IC1559 by one col. to right
- all blank lines (N=1864) and those containing the string 'CONTINUED' (N=125)
were deleted
- morphological types containing lower case letter were found in cols. 132-4
and inserted properly for the '---' strings (213 cases)
H.Andernach, Febr. 1992
During a further check of the compendium (Apr 1994) the following problems
were found:
- For all lines beginning 'AN N' or 'A ' (galaxy name) should start with
'AN ' (for 'anonymous'), otherwise maybe confusion with NGC-names or Abell
cluster names.
- radio reference 'B2 ' was unexplained but is the same as (and should thus
be replaced in the data file with) 'FGL'
- reference K71 was not explained and is Kintner 1971, AJ 76, 409
(thanks to NED!)
- reference KFR (NGC2683 only) was not explained. It might be
Ford, Rubin & Roberts 1971, AJ 76, 22
- reference M63 refers (correctly) to Mills 1960, should for consistency be
replaced by M60
- references 'LU ' (NGC1052)
- 'HUC' (IC 1365) is redundant in reference list should read HU7 in data file
- reference ' HM' for NGC5898 should read 'HMS'
- reference ' EE' for NGC0125 should be shifted one byte left
- all references ' SH' should be shifted one byte left, except for AN 0916
- reference WD (Wall & Disney, priv.comm.) is actually not used in the
data file
- The text of the compendium states that where two references in the last
columns of the data table are connected by a comma, that they are both
optical references. This was found not to be true for the strings ',GLC',
',PKS','HW ', and 'W70'. The commas were removed in these cases.
Apart from these corrections, several bugs were found in the reference file
of the EOLS/ADS documentation (as of Oct. 1992):
- typos present in the names of Berkhuijsen (BW), Mezger (BMW), Windram (RW)
- AEB ref. was missing
- MBY ref is Handbuch der Physik 53 (roman LIII, not L 111), p. 239
deVaucouleurs & deVaucouleurs 1966/1972 can be given code RC (contain
corrections to RC)
- HU7 wrong page number, should be 87, not 57
- PKS: all references to Parkes should be given this code
- wrong year for Bridle et al (1972, not 1962), and Wright (1974, not 1975)
