Errors in A Short History of the Universe
- Planck length = 1E-32 cm on p. 11 and 1E-33 cm on p. 75
- HR Diagram "Massive, luminous, long-lived stars" and
"Dim, low mass, short-lived stars" on p. 21 [Fixed in paperback
edition.]
- Has z = \beta\gamma! on p. 29
- Claims the dipole was discovered by
Muller and Smoot in 1973. The first flight of the Berkeley experiment
was in 1976 and the published paper is
Smoot, Gorenstein and Muller (1977, PRL, 39, 898).
There was already a 4 sigma detection from Henry (1971, Nature, 231,
516).
- p. 55 -- Mather \etal on spectrum was in 1990, not 1991.
- p. 62 -- I used the Earth as a "test case" in talks at Berkeley and
elsewhere (including the 23rd ICRC in Calgary -- see the proceedings)
long before this book came out. Imitation is the sincerest form of
flattery. Note that the left image
is not at DMR resolution.
- p. 169 -- Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect graph has the wrong shape.
- p. 178 -- "scattering" on the time axis should be z_{eq}: the time
when matter and radiation had equal density.
